The Center of Worship – Preaching

Preaching Outline on Leviticus 6:13 “The fire shall burn continually on the altar; it shall not be quenched”

Introduction to Leviticus 6:13

The daily burnt offering, or continual burnt offering, required rams to be sacrificed, one in the morning and the other at sunset (Exodus 29:38 to 42).

Additional burnt offerings were sacrificed on Saturdays, new moons and on the occasions of religious festivals. The fire was to be kept burning at all times. The continuous burning of the offerings signified the people’s total dedication to God.

We can use a little figure of speech within the text and context of what we’ve been reading to compare it with a spiritual context. Let’s see!

Development

Certain instructions in this passage relate specifically to the priests, such as such as the specifications concerning the garments that should be worn. The ordinary person was not allowed to perform any function that involved direct contact with the altar. We know that fire is a symbol of the Holy Spirit.

In the Old Testament, fire literally had to be present on the altar. For this reason, the priest had to remove the previous day’s ashes each morning so that the flame could be reactivated (ashes hinder the fire).

In the New Testament, he is present again at the altar in the temple.

What is fire?

It represents the Holy Spirit in our lives (breaking, renewing and transforming, burning away that which does not please the Lord).

What is the altar?

It speaks volumes about our heart, our life, which must be lifted up before God every day.

What is the temple?

You are the temple of the Holy Spirit.

“Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who dwells in you from God, and that you are not your own?” 1 Corinthians 6:19

What is burning wood on the altar?

That which does not please God must be burned. “Without sanctification it is impossible to please God”.

The act of removing the ashes reminds us of the need to renew our experience with the Lord Jesus Christ every day. Letting go of former things, for we are a new creation; old things have passed away, all things have become new. Yesterday’s experience was valid for yesterday, the past, but today we need a new experience

“I press toward the goal for the prize of the high calling in Christ Jesus” Philippians 3:14

Conclusion of Leviticus 6:13

Let’s move on to the things that are before us: what is before us? Worship, the project of salvation. Today we need an experience with the Lord Jesus Christ; this act falls to the Priest, who is the Priest? Peter says that we are a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9).
