Elisha shows the danger – Preaching
Preaching Outline on II Kings 6:8-9 – And the king of Syria made war on Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, “In such and such a place shall be my camp.
But the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, “Beware of passing through such a place, for the Syrians have come down there.
Introduction to II Kings 6:8-9
Israel was constantly in great battles against the enemy, and Israel’s great secret was to be faithful to their God and heed his voice. These same experiences are lived out by the church today, and the Lord’s purpose for us is the same, to grant victory in the face of daily struggles and battles against the adversary.
Development
The king of Syria typifies the adversary, for he sets up his “camps” close to our weaknesses. The Lord, however, through his Holy Spirit, has warned us of the dangers and snares, revealing to us the plans and attacks that the enemy often devises against us.
The king of Israel needed to know the safe way to go, and the prophet Elisha pointed it out to him. Today, the Holy Spirit has shown us the safe way to go, and that way is Jesus. When the adversary prepares a snare to trap us, the Lord reveals it to us and delivers us from danger.
Through the word of God and the guidance of his Spirit, God leads us astray from the dangerous paths and traps of the enemy, so we need to know every day what the Lord’s purpose is in our journey. For the “king of Syria” is there, full of fury, wanting to destroy our lives. But Jesus is our friend, and in him we are safe. We don’t trust what’s in front of us, even if it seems safe, because there could be an enemy “camp” there, armed to hit us.
Proverbs 2:6-9 – For it is the Lord who gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and insight. He reserves wisdom for the righteous; like a shield he protects those who walk uprightly, for he guards the path of the righteous and protects the way of his faithful ones Then you will understand what is just, right and right, and you will learn the ways of goodness.
Conclusion of II Kings 6:8-9
The Lord preserves our lives by revealing the truth and the safe path to those who listen to his Word.
“and your ears will hear it.A voice behind you will say, ‘This is the way you should go,’ whether you turn to the right or to the left.“ Isaiah 30:21
