Staff or Serpent? – Preaching
Preaching Outline on Exodus 4:2-3 – “And the Lord said to him: What is that in your hand? And he said: A rod. And he said, Cast it into the earth. And he cast it into the earth, and it became a snake: and Moses fled from it.”
Introduction to Exodus 4:2-3
The Bible is an extremely interesting book that uses figures to speak to man. Look at there in Moses’ hand…
Development
As long as man is in the Lord’s hands, he is useful. He serves to support, direct and care for the sheep, among other functions. He is even used to perform feats that are not in his nature, since, when God was going to work, he always told Moses to stretch out his staff and the wonder would happen. Jesus said that his servants would do greater feats than those they saw during his ministry.
But the man out of the Lord’s hands…
Thrown into the earth, walking through this life without the presence of the Lord, it becomes a serpent. Something of no use to the spiritual world, something dangerous, something that hurts, that spews poison.
Conclusion of Exodus 4:2-3
Now we can choose what we want to be, a blessing in the hands of the Lord or a serpent representing the work of the adversary.
