Obedience to the Lord – Preaching

Preaching Outline on 1 Chronicles 21:1-7 – “Then Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel……All this displeased God, who struck Israel.”

Theme: obedience to the Lord.

Objective: To learn not to go ahead with what the Lord doesn’t want of us, but to wait for his guidance.

Introduction to 1 Chronicles 21:1-7

David decided to take a census. It was already very well established. An obedient and God-fearing people. David wanted to know the number out of vanity, as if his victories were based on the number of soldiers.

Development

When man surrenders to the passions of the flesh, he can bring great evil upon himself. Man sometimes forgets who God is. God showed David that he was Lord over all things. God is powerful, he is the author of life and he has what we don’t have. We must live each day as if we had nothing.

All the victories we achieve in our spiritual life are not the result of our ability, but of the Lord’s blessing on our lives. When a man’s heart becomes puffed up, he begins to believe that he can accomplish something, or some work for God.

The Lord has taught us that this is not the case. We have to trust the Lord more and more every day and let him do the work. We must let the Lord do his will so that we don’t suffer the consequences of our mistakes, as happened to David on that occasion.

Conclusion of 1 Chronicles 21:1-7

When we remain in a position of submission to the Lord’s will, we run no risk of making mistakes, because he helps us in everything.
