If you make me an altar of stones – Preaching

Preaching Outline Exodus 20:25 – And if you make me an altar of stone, you shall not make it of hewn stone; if you lift up your burin on it, you shall defile it.

Introduction to Exodus 20:25

The Lord shows through this Word that the altar should not be built with stones carved by man, using tools such as the burin, as this would cause desecration. The stones had to be natural, as the Lord made them.

Development

The building of the altar speaks of the building of the Work in our lives. Each of the stones placed on this altar represents the Word of God and its teachings, which we have placed in our hearts through the operation of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

We cannot “manipulate” or “sculpt” these stones. Man cannot touch the Work of God or leave his “imprint” on it in order to achieve his own interests or vanity. The Work of God must be in accordance with the Lord’s will and there is no room for human impositions or ideas.

No one can use positions, functions or even supposed spiritual gifts to carry out the Lord’s Work according to the interests of their heart or reason. When someone conducts God’s Work according to their own point of view, they defile the altar.

The stones that exist in nature have the shape that the rain and the wind give them. The true servant of the Lord takes the form that what comes from above and from the Holy Spirit also gives him. The Work of God in his life is what he lives, it is the result of the Lord’s influence throughout his journey.

Conclusion of Exodus 20:25

Only the Lord can determine how his Work should be built. Man only has to obey, and when he does, the altar is holy and acceptable to the Lord. Only then is the Lamb present on the altar.
