Isaac’s discovery – Preaching
Preaching Outline on Genesis 22:7 – “And Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, ‘My father! And he said, Behold, my son! And he said, Behold the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
Introduction to Genesis 22:7
Isaac knew the ritual of the burnt offering, he knew the fire and the wood, elements of the work of creation, but the central figure to complete the sacrifice was missing. Abraham knew that his son would be killed, but both were unaware of the outcome of that act.
Imagine Abraham’s heart during the hours leading up to that moment, it wasn’t easy for him, Abraham had no idea what God had prepared for him.
God has his way of giving man an experience of Salvation, Abraham, Isac and his whole family would be transformed by that prophetic experience that pointed to Jesus being sacrificed for our lives.
Development
Isaac had certainly seen many other burnt offerings, and at that moment he realized that something was missing, the main element of the burnt offering, the lamb. Jesus is the central element of God’s project of Salvation, without him this project is null and void.
Abraham, now cornered by his son’s question, put his dependence on God into practice by saying that God had already prepared the lamb for him. Hallelujah!
Neither Isaac nor Abraham were aware of the mystery that was in God’s heart. This mystery was only revealed after the shout of the Angel of the Lord, in other words, after divine intervention.
Because Abraham, at that moment, lifted up his eyes and looked, taking note of the one who would be the substitute, the innocent victim, who, through the shedding of his blood, would be the pledge of the preservation of Isaac’s life.
Isaac was preserved there, in the place of sorrow came abundant joy. This is how Salvation works in the life of man and in the life of God’s servant, always depending on the Lord for everything in this life. We can trust in God!
Conclusion of Genesis 22:7
Just as Isaac’s life was preserved by the shedding of that animal’s blood, today we are preserved alive by the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus on the cross, the Angel of the Lord, who consoles us every day with his voice.
