Prophecy of the crucifixion

Preaching Outline on Genesis 22:11-12 – “But the angel of the LORD shouted to him from heaven and said: Abraham, Abraham! And he said, ‘Here I am. Then he said, “Do not lay your hand on the young man and do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God and have not withheld your only son from me.”

INTRODUCTION

THE SACRIFICE THAT ANNOUNCED THE CROSS

The episode on Mount Moriah is not just a story of faith, but a prophecy of Calvary.

  • Abraham represents God the Father, who offered his only Son.
  • The lamb replacing Isaac points to Christ, the Lamb of God (John 1:29).

Question: Why did God interrupt Isaac’s sacrifice, but allow his own Son to die?

DEVELOPMENT

GOD’S WONDERS REVEALED ON THE MOUNT

1️”BUT THE ANGEL SHOUTED TO HIM FROM HEAVEN” – GOD’S OMNIPRESENCE

🔹 God is never late! At just the right moment, He intervened.

  • Just as Abraham was not alone, we are never helpless (Hebrews 13:5).
  • Application: How many times do we think that God is silent, but He is acting behind the scenes?
2️”ABRAHAM, ABRAHAM” – GOD’S OMNISCIENCE

🔹 God knows our name and our heart!

  • He knew of Abraham’s anguish, but also of his unshakeable faith.
  • Just as Jesus called “Saul, Saul” (Acts 9:4), God calls us personally.
  • Application: Have you ever felt God’s call in the midst of your trial?
3️”DO NOT STRETCH OUT YOUR HAND” – GOD’S OMNIPOTENCE

🔹 Only God can stop death and give life!

  • Isaac was spared, but Jesus was not – because He was the definitive Lamb.
  • The ram replaced Isaac, but no one replaced Jesus (Romans 8:32).
  • Application: If God did not spare His own Son, what will He not do for us?

CONCLUSION

THE DELIVERANCE THAT CAME THROUGH THE CROSS

  • On Mount Moriah, a lamb died in Isaac’s place.
  • At Calvary, Christ died in our place (Isaiah 53:5).
  • Abraham received his son back (Hebrews 11:19), but God resurrected His own!

Just as Abraham believed, do you believe that Jesus is your substitute?

  • If you have never surrendered to Christ, today is the day of your deliverance!
  • If you already know him, live in the certainty that he spared no effort to save you!

MAKE A DECISION TODAY:
Surrender – If you have never accepted Jesus, receive Him now as your Savior.
Gratitude – If you already know Him, worship Him for His perfect sacrifice.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
