The Levite in Micah’s house – Preaching
Preaching Outline on Judges 17:7-13 – And Micah asked him: – Where do you come from? He answered, “I’m a Levite from Bethlehem in Judah, and I’m looking for a place to live. Then Micah said: – Stay with me, as my counselor and priest. I’ll give you ten pieces of silver a year, your clothes and your food.
Introduction to Judges 17:7-13
The Word says that in the days of the Judges, there was no king in Israel, and everyone did what he thought was right in his own eyes. In those days, a young Levite left his homeland and went on pilgrimage to the mountain of Ephraim. He left Bethlehem in search of a place where he could find comfort, hospitality and a place to live. This young man had certain characteristics:
He was from Bethlehem;
He was from the Tribe of Judah;
He was a Levite = priest;
He was a pilgrim in Ephraim.
All these characteristics correspond to the characteristics of the Lord Jesus, because he was also born in Bethlehem and was from the Tribe of Judah. Jesus came to this world in search of comfort in our hearts, in search of a place where his Spirit could dwell, and this place is our life.
Development
That Levite, from Bethlehem of Judah, ended up meeting a man called Micah, from the tribe of Ephraim. The Ephraimites were known in the Bible as an undefined people, like a cake that hasn’t been turned over and has only been baked on one side. This speaks of the man’s situation of spiritual vagueness. Micah asked who he was, and when he found out, he gave him an invitation: “Stay with me and be to me a father and a priest, and I will give you ten pieces of silver each year, and clothing, and your livelihood”. And the Levite went into his house and stayed with him. Micah also had some characteristics and problems in his life:
He had stolen 1,100 pieces of silver from his mother;
I was under a curse;
Afraid of the curse, he returned the silver pieces and was awarded two hundred pieces;
He had the silver melted down and turned it into an idol.
Micah is a type of natural man, generated by a materialistic society and under a curse because of his sins. He acts according to his own concept of truth, and is idolatrous, able to replace God with anything.
Despite living a life of sin, the Levite was no respecter of persons and agreed to live in Micah’s house, because he found him receptive, in need of security and of an intercessor (priest) before God. Micah also promised him food and clothing, as well as a sum of silver coins.
Today, man lives in sin and idolatry, but when the Lord Jesus meets him, and his heart opens, then the Lord enters his life (house) and begins to dwell there. From then on, Jesus becomes the Father and thePriest in man’s life. The Father is the one who takes care of, provides for every need, gives security and passes on an inheritance to his son. The Priest is the one who intercedes before God for your needs and pleads your cause before the enemy.
Conclusion of Judges 17:7-13
When the Lord Jesus comes into someone’s life, the person is transformed, everything is made new and the true reason for living is achieved. That’s why Micah said: “Now I know that the Lord will do me good, because I have a Levite for a priest”.
The man who has been reached by the Lord’s mercy must consecrate himself to God by offering his life in gratitude for the blessings he has received. His faithfulness (sustenance), his testimony (clothing) and the saving of lives (silver coins) are the things that the Lord expects to receive from man as a result of living with Him.
