Manna – Exodus 16:4

Manna – Preaching

Preaching Outline on Exodus 16:4 – “Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather their daily portion.”

Introduction to Exodus 16:4

The figure of Jesus and his reign were already present in the Old Testament. Jesus reveals himself in various ways: as sustenance, direction, liberation and life. All things were made by him and for him; he knew from eternity what man needed. In Israel’s journey, God did not allow his people to lack anything.

And one of the miracles and signs that the Lord performed to show that he would never forsake Israel was the bread that came down from heaven. The bread referred to in the text was God’s daily response to Israel’s need. That bread was manna. The manna is a prophetic figure of the Lord Jesus. God uses the figure of the manna to speak prophetically of his son Jesus. The manna represented the daily response to the sustenance of the people of Israel. Jesus is God’s daily response to man’s need.

Development

God had a plan for Israel and within that plan, if his guidelines were followed, victory would be certain.” And the people shall go out” – Within God’s plan, it is only up to man to make a decision, a position, a definition so that he can supply them with all their needs. It was only necessary for them to go out to see God’s miracle (the manna that came from heaven).

God has a blessing for man, but it is necessary to take a stand against the plan. When man heeds God’s guidance and seeks him out, he sees the miracle (Jesus present in his life). “Daily harvest”, the portion, the right measure, God has prepared for us every day. Jesus reveals himself to us every day and the nourishment we need for our spiritual life we find when we seek his presence.

The manna had to be gathered daily. The need to have Jesus in our lives is daily, it’s constant. The faithful church has a daily encounter with Jesus. The harvest is gathered in the early hours of the morning, in midday services, in constant prayer and consecration. God knows what we need.

Conclusion of Exodus 16:4

Man’s needs have always been evident at all times. For Israel, it was physical food for the journey. But for us, the need is spiritual food. Man has this need and Jesus reveals himself as this food: “He who feeds on me will live through me. John 6 vs.57”. “I am the bread of life. John 6:48. “This is the bread that comes down from heaven John 6 vs.50” “To the overcomer I will give of the hidden Manna. Rev.2:17”.
