The Sound of the Horn – Preaching

Preaching Outline on Nehemiah 4:20 – “In the place where you hear the sound of the horn, there you will gather with us; our God will fight for us.”

Listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit today

Introduction to Nehemiah 4:20

Imagine the following scene: a group of people working hard to rebuild the walls of a city. That city is Jerusalem, and the leader of the work is Nehemiah. They face many problems, because evil people want to get in the way of the construction. To protect themselves, they need to be vigilant and united.

Nehemiah then gave an important order: “When you hear the sound of the horn, run here! God will fight for us!” (Nehemiah 4:20). That horn was a warning of danger, a call for everyone to get together and protect themselves.

At that time, the horn was essential. Nowadays, we no longer use horns to protect ourselves from enemies, but we still need to be vigilant and united like the people of Jerusalem. Just as God was with them, He is with us today.

And who warns us of dangers and calls us closer to God? It’s the Holy Spirit! He is like Nehemiah’s horn, guiding us and protecting us.

Development

The Holy Spirit warns us:

Just as the horn warned people of danger, the Holy Spirit warns us of the wrong things that can lead us away from God. He acts like a friend who advises us and shows us the right path.

The Bible says in John 16:13: “But when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth. The Holy Spirit helps us to understand the Bible and to live according to God’s will.

He shows us when we are going wrong and helps us make wise decisions. It’s important to pay attention to the voice of the Holy Spirit, because He wants our good.

The Holy Spirit unites us:

The horn united the people to defend themselves. The Holy Spirit also unites us as brothers and sisters in Christ, as one big family. He helps us to love and care for one another.

Ephesians 4:3 says: “Make every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace”. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can live in harmony, forgiving each other and seeking peace.

When we are united by the Holy Spirit, we are stronger to face life’s challenges.

The Holy Spirit sets us in motion:

The sound of the horn made the people act. The Holy Spirit also drives us to do God’s work. He gives us the strength and courage to witness to Jesus and help people.

In Acts 1:8, Jesus says: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses”. The Holy Spirit enables us to tell other people about Jesus and to do good.

He gives us special gifts to serve God and others. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can make a difference in the world!

Conclusion of Nehemiah 4:20

Just as Nehemiah’s people listened to the sound of the horn, we need to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit. He warns us, unites us and sets us in motion.

May we always be attentive to His voice, seeking His guidance at all times. When we follow the Holy Spirit, we are safe in God’s arms and can live a victorious life!
