Preaching Outline on Nehemiah 8:9-11 – “And Nehemiah (who was the Tirshatha), Ezra the priest, the scribe, and the Levites who taught the people, said to all the people, ‘This day is consecrated to the Lord your God; therefore do not mourn or weep. For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law. And he said to them, “Go, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared for themselves; for this day is consecrated to our Lord; therefore do not grieve; for the joy of the Lord is your strength. And the Levites silenced all the people, saying: Be silent; for this day is holy; therefore do not grieve.”

Development

v. 10 – “…This day is consecrated to the Lord…”

THE BEST FOR YOU

“…then do not mourn or weep…” (v. 9). Surrender your problem, your sadness, to the Lord.

v. 10 – “Go” – In the joy of the Holy Spirit. “Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

v. 11 – “Be quiet” – Let the Holy Spirit work. Give the Holy Spirit freedom.

“Shut up: The Work is of the Holy Spirit, let God speak. The day is holy – Holy Spirit

Do not be grieved – The Lord is our joy, comfort and strength.

Wait for the Revelation of Jesus

In verses 9, 10 and 11 of chapter 8 of Nehemiah we understand that this day is consecrated to the Father and the command to walk in Jesus led by the Holy Spirit.

This day is consecrated to the Lord. Do not weep. It is the Lord’s day.

Don’t be sad – Joy of the Spirit.

Be quiet – Let the Spirit work: Heed God’s direction.

“The joy of the Lord is your strength”; “Rejoice with those who rejoice”.

“Then all the people went out to eat, to drink, to send portions, and to rejoice greatly; for they understood the words that they had made known to them.” Neh 8:12.

Summary

– Let the Lord act. Give freedom to the Holy Spirit;

– Don’t cry;

– Don’t be sad;

– Shut up;

– Rejoice.

This is a holy day, consecrated to the Lord.
