New path – Preaching
Preaching Outline on Exodus 3:1-9 – And Moses was feeding the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest in Midian; and he led the flock after the wilderness, and came to the mountain of God, to Horeb.
And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
Moses said: Now I will turn there, and see this great vision, for the bush does not burn.
And when the Lord saw that he turned to look, God cried to him out of the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses. And he said, Here I am.
And he said, “Do not come near here; take off your shoes from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.
And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
And the Lord said, “I have seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry because of their exactors, for I have known their sorrows.
Therefore I came down to deliver him out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring him up out of that land to a good and broad land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite, and of the Hittite, and of the Amorite, and of the Perizzite, and of the Hivite, and of the Jebusite.
And now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.
Development of Exodus 3:1-9
Moses had been brought up to succeed to the throne of Egypt, to be Pharaoh’s successor. His name was written on the pillars of the palace and when he fled, Pharaoh had it crossed out.
He was under a death sentence
We too were born under a judgment of death. He was an ordinary man like us. The Lord deals with each one of us privately, because for him we are very important, but for the world we are nothing (bush in the desert);
Midian
A small people who had no commitment to the Lord. Type of religion. They had several gods and Moses’ father-in-law was their priest;
Moses had no assets, the flock he was feeding wasn’t his, it belonged to his father-in-law. He thought he was at the end of his life (80 years old) and had nothing left to achieve.
He saw a bush on fire (it was common for a bush to catch fire in the desert. The fire consumed it and there was nothing left – like a man without the Lord, he dies and no one remembers him – Psalm 90 written by Moses was quoted);
Moses wanted to be like that bush, to have that fire that burned and did not consume (the Holy Spirit).
Moses had brought the sandals from Egypt (only the masters wore sandals, the servants didn’t): He didn’t change his walk, he continued in the same way, with the same thoughts, etc.
Take off your sandals and I’ll talk to you
We need to get rid of the things of the world, to have a new way of life in order to have access to God;
I brought him close
He spoke to him: He showed him the project, he spoke of his plans in Moses’ life;
We need to change our ways;
Did you leave Egypt? Did you change your walk?
No? Then there is a death sentence.
Then God will speak to you.
