Renewal generates life and communion – Preaching
Preaching Outline on Genesis 4:26 – “And to Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enos; and he began to call on the name of the Lord.”
Introduction to Genesis 4:26
The Word tells us about a family, a home, where in this home, Abel, a servant of the Lord, gave his testimony of faith that speaks to this day.
However, Abel was struck by death, which entered the home and brought about several unexpected events. And at that moment, death brought bitterness, sadness, suffering and estrangement from God. God’s name was no longer invoked.
Development
We can see how much of a difference Abel’s presence made to his family, because Abel had an attitude since he was a young boy, which was to call on the name of the Lord, and this became a habit in his life. He certainly passed this way of life on to his family members, but for some reason they didn’t call on God with all their hearts, because, according to the text, God’s name was only called on again after the birth of Enos.
In fact, we also find similar situations in many families, homes sustained by the prayer and communion of a single family member, or the minority. Seeking God with all your heart results in blessings that will be poured out from generation to generation.
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Genesis 13:3
Serving God is a personal experience, it’s a choice to be made, God only accepts a heart moved by faith.
Renewal Generates Life
God had set aside the moment to renew and restore the cult in Abel’s house. We see that when Seth enters that home, he brings joy, he generates life and Enos is born, it is at this moment that God once again begins to be invoked.
God has always sought to relate to man: Call upon me, and I will answer you; I will tell you great and hidden things that you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3
When man maintains a communion with God, he reaches a new path for his life. The Spirit of God has sought out true worshippers, those who seek God in Spirit and truth.
A branch will grow out of the trunk of Jesse, and a new shoot will spring from his roots. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him, the Spirit who gives wisdom and understanding, the Spirit who brings counsel and power, the Spirit who gives knowledge and the fear of the Lord. Isaiah 11:1-2
Conclusion of Genesis 4:26
Enos means “mortal man.” Just as the birth of Enos restored communion with God in the house of Abel, so it was God’s pleasure to send his only son Jesus to give man once again the opportunity to be in communion with his creator and Savior.
Christ’s death on the cross and his resurrection give believers the opportunity to be with their creator forever.
