He’s here until now… – Preaching
Preaching Outline on Ruth 2:7 – “She said to me: Let me glean ears of corn, and gather them among the tendrils after the reapers. So she came, and has been here from morning until now, except for a little while she has been sitting at home.”
Introduction and Ruth 2:7
On a believer’s journey, many things happen that can make him go backwards, forget his commitment to God, forget the value of the Gospel in his life. And where are we today?
Development
Ruth’s attitude is our attitude when we come into the Lord’s presence, when we get to know his work, someone who had no right and benefited from the law of the stranger (saving grace). When we came into the presence of the Lord, we told the Holy Spirit that we just wanted to be servants, simple servants, that’s all.
“…She said to me: Let me pluck the ears of corn, and gather them among the sheaves after the reapers…”
What did you tell the Holy Spirit when you arrived? That I just wanted to be a servant. What about today? Are you demanding something? Are you complaining about something? Or do you remember that you just wanted to be a servant, that you were always happy gathering the ears after the reapers.
The Holy Spirit is reminding us: “Remember what you once said to me…”. One day we will stand before God’s judgment seat and be told what we said when we came before him, what commitment we made.
“…So she came, and has been here since morning until now…”
How many are no longer the same, they are in church, but they are no longer grateful, they no longer love God’s work. They came in the morning, but in the evening they are no longer there. In the morning (when all is well), they were at the Lord’s feet, but in the evening (during the period of trials, of definition), they are no longer at the Lord’s feet. Where are you now?
“…except for a little while she sat at home…”
Ruth only looked after her life for a little while, most of the time she was in the field, and that’s the attitude of the servant, being faithful in the little. In her life story, most of her time is spent in the Work, serving in the field, being faithful in little. All we want is to hear it one day:
“His lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant. I will give you much for the little you have done; enter into the joy of your master.”
Matthew 25:23
Conclusion of Ruth 2:7
Where are we so far? In the Field or out of the Field? It’s wonderful when the Holy Spirit looks at the servant and confirms what he said, that he wanted to serve him, and that he’s still serving him.
“Just let me serve you, Lord!”. Are you serving so far? Happy, grateful, surrendered? Are you so far?
