Take the sandals off your feet – Preaching
Preaching Outline on Exodus 3:1-5 – And Moses was feeding the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest in Midian; and he led the flock after the wilderness, and came to the mountain of God, to Horeb. And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said: Now I will turn aside and see this great sight, for the bush does not burn. And when the Lord saw that he turned to look, God cried to him out of the midst of the bush, and said, “Moses, Moses.” And he said, “Here I am. And he said, Here I am. And he said, “Do not come near here; take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you are is holy ground.
Introduction to Exodus 3:1-5
God chose us from our mother’s womb, protected us, delivered us, brought us out of Egypt. A great teaching is presented in our calling.
God chose a place to reveal his call, it was on Mount Horeb.
God takes us away from our friends, from our family, he takes us to a more private place to give us an experience, to hear his voice, often this mountain and the Church itself. Moses looked after the sheep that weren’t his; he did so for 40 years. God prepares us to look after things that are not ours, they are the sheep of the Father of the Bride.
Development
“Moses looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, and the bush was not consumed.” – The most wonderful experience man can have is with the Lord Jesus. The bush was a plant without beauty, but the flame made it something wonderful. Jesus was exactly like that in his ministry, as a man he had no beauty at all, but he was a man who drew crowds close, because from Jesus emanated light and warmth, bringing God’s blessing into man’s life.
The servant’s life is like that, we have no beauty, humanly we have nothing special, but God has given us his Holy Spirit, who works in our lives, causing a marvelous transformation of life.
“I will go there and see this great wonder.”
Jesus draws man close to Him, the Lord is Wonderful. The servant’s testimony is the same, the servant filled with the Holy Spirit serves as a guide for others to know the fire of the Spirit.
“why doesn’t the bush burn?”
The world doesn’t understand Jesus’ sacrifice, the world doesn’t understand the life of the servant, our life is against all logic because we live by faith. We walk by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This is the teaching that God transmits when he calls man.
“When the Lord saw that he was turning (…) he called to him and said, ‘Moses! Moses!”
Man has his back to God, but the Lord gives him an experience so that he turns to God. But the Lord has not turned his back on man. So when man turns to God, God speaks to him.
“He said, ‘Here I am
The response that man needs to give to the Lord in the face of his call is this: “Here I am”. When man makes himself available to God, he can carry out his plans in our lives.
Conclusion of Exodus 3:1-5
“Take off your sandals”
This is the condition for us to be able to draw closer to the Lord, to take off our sandals. At that time, poor people walked around without sandals, poor, needy, dependent on other people’s help, they had no possessions.
This is how God wants man to present himself before him, as poor, as needy, as dependent on God’s help. Take away the arguments, take away the ideas, take away the self-sufficiency, take away the old life, take away the “I”. Because we have been called to be on holy ground, to be set apart. And through us, God is going to free many people who are slaves in Egypt and the Lord is going to take them to the Promised Land, our way out to Eternity.
