The message of Worship – Preaching

Preaching Outline on Genesis 22:5 – “… And Abraham said to his young men, ‘Stay here with the donkey, and I and the young man will go over there; and when we have worshipped, we will come back to you…”

Introduction to Genesis 22:5

This was one of the great moments in Abraham’s life: the Lord his God asked him for his only son as a sacrifice, a great test for Abraham, a moment of faith and submission to God. Abraham’s choice and position would have repercussions for his entire household and his descendants.

Development

You see, he was going to Mount Moriah alone with Isaac, and he needed to say something to the young men, he needed to give them a message.

What was Abraham going to do?

What message should we leave the world as a Church? Struggles, adversity, difficult moments, everyone has them, whether they are believers or not. But we as a Church, when we are experiencing adversity, a difficult time, what is our message to the world?

Abraham left a message for his young men:

“…Stay here with the donkey…”

The experience belonged to Abraham and Isaac, not those young men. God asked for what Abraham loved most, Isaac, which means laughter.

When God calls man into his presence, to have an experience with him, soon afterwards God asks for what he loves most, so that he can sacrifice it to the Lord. God deprives us of what we love most, what is important, what has value.

“…The boy and I will go over there…”

Only Abraham would go where God told him to go. Only the servant knows his relationship with God, that is communion.

In this prophetic time, only the Lord’s Church is in communion with God, only she goes there, where no one goes. Only she experiences God beyond human reason;

“…Having worshipped, we will return to you…”

This was the message that Abraham left for those who accompanied him. He could have said, “I’m going to sacrifice Isaac… I’m going to sacrifice my own son. … I’m going to immolate this child…”. His act of offering what God asked for, Abraham called his pain worship, my trial should be called worship.

But that’s not what he said. Why didn’t he? Because it was a secret. What God said to Abraham was a secret. So the message was, I WILL WORSHIP. Worship is a secret, it is a private experience of each servant with God.

Conclusion of Genesis 22:5

We have a message for the world. In struggles, in trials, in adversity, we don’t murmur, we don’t walk around hopeless, aimless, without direction. We worship. No people in the world do that! Only the Lord’s Church. Worship is a secret. Only those filled with the Holy Spirit worship.

The Church is filled with the Holy Spirit because she is on Mount Moriah, a place chosen by God.
