Paul’s shipwreck – Preaching
Preaching Outline on Acts 27:41-44 – But when they came to a place where there were two seas, they ran the ship aground; and when the bow was fixed, it remained motionless, but the stern opened with the force of the waves. The soldiers’ idea was to kill the prisoners so that none would escape by swimming.
But the centurion, wanting to save Paul, prevented them from doing so, and ordered those who could swim to throw themselves into the sea first and save themselves on land, and the rest, some on planks and others on things from the ship. And so it happened that they all came ashore safely.
Introduction to Acts 27:41-44
41. But when they came to a place where there were two seas, they ran the ship aground; and when the bow was fixed, it remained motionless, but the stern opened with the force of the waves.
There are times in a man’s life when he needs to make a decision. The place of two seas speaks of that moment, a need to choose between serving the Lord or this world. While the Lord wants to bless us, the adversary wants to bind us to this world (fix the bow) and destroy us, taking away our blessing.
THE OPPONENT’S PROJECT
42. So the soldiers’ idea was to kill the prisoners so that none would escape by swimming.
The adversary wants to kill man, prevent salvation, try to stop the Church from being raptured, try to bind us to the “ship” that is already sinking so that we can’t escape. Many false attractions bind man to the things of this world.
THE LORD’S APPEAL
“But the centurion, wanting to save Paul, hindered their attempt, and commanded those who could swim to put out to sea first and be saved on land; and the rest, some on planks and some on things from the ship.”
God has guarded his servants, and raised up lives to judge the cause of his servants. This is what happened to Paul; the centurion wanted to save Paul. Surely this centurion received the word of God through Paul at some point; the Holy Spirit was already preparing everything.
Where there is a servant of the Lord, everything around him changes, God’s blessing on our lives overflows and reaches many lives. Not only was Paul saved, but all those who were with him. The adversary plotted to kill them all, but he was defeated.
Conclusion of Acts 27:41-44
44. (…) And so it happened that they all arrived safely on land.
God has a plan of salvation for man’s life. He wants to save EVERYONE. He wants to bring man to earth safe for eternity.
