They are in the Temple – Preaching
Preaching Outline on Acts 5:25 – And one came and told them, saying, “Behold, the men whom you put in prison are in the temple and are teaching the people.
Introduction to Acts 5:25
What happened to the apostles was prophetic. They suffered for the Gospel. They were persecuted, they were envied, and finally they were arrested and locked up in prison. But they didn’t stay in prison. Do you know why? Because there was still a lot to be done. God had a Work to accomplish. God sent his angel to free them.
The trials and struggles we experience are prophetic. The Lord Jesus told us to rejoice when we suffer for the sake of the Gospel. We won’t be trapped by trials. We will be freed from them. The angel of the Lord will always be sent to deliver us. Because God still wants to use us. There is much land to possess.
They could have gone home. They could have given up. But they followed the Lord’s instructions to go to the house of God. They weren’t found at home, complaining, discouraged. They were found in the temple. The expression in the original is: “…they stand in the temple and teach the people.”
Development
My brothers, how many in this last hour, because of the struggles, are no longer standing. How many have given up on being in God’s house. How many have forgotten the angel’s guidance:
“Go and stand in the temple, and speak to the people all the words of this life.” Acts 5:20
Interestingly, there is a translation that says: “…tell the people all the words of this new life”
There is a testimony to be given. The Lord has given us new life. We cannot remain trapped in struggles. Trapped in the prison of reason, of spiritual coldness, of mistaken thoughts about the Gospel, trapped in concepts that are not in the Word. We have already been freed from that. Now is the time to be in the house of God, but there are many who are not in the temple, who have decided to go elsewhere, because they are tired of the chains for the sake of the Gospel, they are tired of suffering for the name of Jesus.
Those apostles came out of prison and regained their strength and went to the temple. What did they do in the temple? Did they complain? Murmur? No. They taught. Not only were they in the temple, but they taught in the temple. And how do we teach in the Work? With our lives. Our faithfulness and commitment to the Gospel. We can’t just be in the temple. We need our lives to be a teaching to the young.
Conclusion of Acts 5:25
May the struggles not bind us to this present time. May we not be weak, overcome by reason or discouragement. Our place is in the temple. There is much to teach (we say again, not just with words, but with our lives. It is our life that must be a teaching).
Have your struggles tired you out? Do you still believe that the angel of the Lord will always deliver you from the prisons of this life? Are you standing in the house of God? Where are you going in this last hour? Has your life been a teaching?
