To the unknown God – Preaching

Preaching Outline Acts 17:23-24For as I passed by and saw your sanctuaries, I also found an altar on which was written: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. This one, therefore, whom you honor, not knowing him, is the one I proclaim to you.

Introduction to Acts 17:23-24

The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made by men’s hands;

When we relate Paul’s period to the time we live in today, it’s not very different; times have changed, but man is the same, let’s leave history a little aside, because we know it well, and let’s move on to a wonderful prophecy that is contained in this passage of the word, which is after the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in which we are also living this time, in the end of course, we know that the Spirit is crying out together with his church Come Jesus!!!

“For as I pass by and see your shrines”

After the outpouring of the Spirit, it is Jesus who does the work by his Spirit. It is known that man could never carry out the work of the Holy Spirit, but we can practice the Apostolic Acts, which are the results of the work of the Holy Spirit being carried out in our lives, so in this case we can be used and proclaim the will of the Lord, “no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit”.

“Passing me”

The Holy Spirit is present today looking for the Lord’s elect, warming the church with spiritual gifts, and probing hearts by looking at our sanctuaries, that is, our temples, our hearts, seeing what is being built in them, whether it is the work of the Spirit or the work of other gods out there.

“I also found an altar on which was written: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. This one, therefore, whom you honor, not knowing him, is the one I proclaim to you.”

This is the Holy Spirit’s greatest concern, because He has found an altar with this characteristic: there are only two sides, a people who know the Way and a people who don’t know the Way and live by letters, dogmas, religious arguments and so on.

Man has spoken well of God, but he doesn’t have the knowledge of the living and working Lord in his life and the Holy Spirit’s job is to reveal to man that Jesus lives.

“The God who made the world and everything in it,”

And the objective of the Holy Spirit is to announce the trinity, because this is the basis of the project, and for lack of comprehensive knowledge man starts to live doctrinal deviations, great scholars, but hurting the word, a horizontal Christianity; social and material.

“Man” knows that God created all things, that is to say, a large majority, although there are still some atheists in our midst, which is not our concern. But there is one thing that man does not know, and that is that God not only created all visible things, but also created a project of redemption to save man, and that is why He has chosen him so that, after being called, man can have free access to eternity.

Being Lord of heaven and earth”

And in this project of salvation , Jesus, the son of God, who was the only priest worthy of tearing the veil from top to bottom, was the one who found us and showed us the way to reunion, being Lord of heaven and earth, in other words, the only one who linked eternity to eternal life from heaven to earth, giving man the right to eternal life in his name.

“He does not dwell in temples made with men’s hands”

We are the temple of the Holy Spirit, Paul uses the word sanctuary at the beginning, because this temple is built through our sanctification and was not made by the hands of men, our salvation process is not based on works of the flesh, but on a faith that comes from God.

There is something very important for us today as a church that Paul teaches us: where there are human hands, God does not work, nor does he dwell, in the gospel of Christ there is no rational explanation, eternal life is not explained to anyone with theology, this bread does not reach the soul, but the revelation of Christ has sustained us on this journey, because salvation is the daily experience with God.
