Jesus, the high priest – Preaching

Preaching Outline on Hebrews 10:20 – “By the new and living way which he consecrated for us through the veil, that is, through his flesh”

Introduction to Hebrews 10:20

Our salvation is compared to the journey of the priest from (our conversion) to his entrance through the door of the tabernacle courtyard, but in order to go to the Most Holy, the presence of God (eternity), we need the company of the High Priest Jesus. There is a path to be traveled every day until we reach eternity. It is a new and living path. We cannot stop, the experience of salvation cannot be lost.

Development

In the past, there was a way for man to go to God, which was the law. This path was a project for the salvation of one people: Israel, and then God’s project became the salvation of the world. Today, then, man’s way to God is through faith and grace.

Three changes:

1st change: Going beyond the veil every day: Previously, the high priest entered the Most Holy Place, where God manifested himself, only once a year, taking blood in his hands, to ask forgiveness for the people; he was the mediator between man and God.

When the veil was torn, everyone could see beyond the veil, everyone entered the presence of God like the priest. Today the only mediator is Jesus Christ and access to God for us is every day. The believer has now become a priest, he will serve the Lord, he has the right to worship the Lord.

2nd change: Out goes the law and in comes Grace: Before, entry into the sanctuary was only allowed with the blood of the victim offered. When the veil was torn, it was no longer necessary to sacrifice animals, because Jesus Christ is the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world John 1:29, now access to God is only through the power of Jesus’ blood.

3rd change: Talking to God and listening to him: Before, the high priest went into the most holy place, where the ark of the covenant was kept, and inside it were two tablets of the law, Aaron’s rod, a jar of manna and above it, cherubim, there God spoke to him.

When the veil was torn, Jesus, through his death, gave all of us the right to have a relationship with God, to talk to him and listen to him. Once the believer has the communion with God that he didn’t have before, he will enjoy experiences with revelations in various forms that are necessary for his journey:

  • Ark representing the Father = contained the tablets of the law (Word), the manna (Jesus the Bread of Life) and Aaron’s rod (government of the ES).
  • The mercy seat representing the Son (lid of the ark, where the victim’s blood was spread).
  • The cherubim (ministering angels).

Conclusion

So there are two sides: before the veil and beyond the veil. Where are you? The Lord Jesus, with his forgiveness, wants to take us to the depths of direct communion with the Father. To accept Jesus’ sacrifice is to go beyond the veil and live by grace, by faith.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness; and by his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24
