Crazy! Tonight they’ll ask you for your soul
Preaching Outline on Luke 12:20 – But God said to him, “You fool! This night your soul will be asked for; and what you have prepared, for whom shall it be?”
Introduction to Luke 12:20
The parable of the foolish rich man (he has lost his mind or is foolish). It demonstrates the fact that the pursuit of material things is not the main thing in man’s life.
The man prospers, saves a lot of money and builds a large estate. All planned to enjoy and rest, drink, eat and have fun.
The big question is: “…and what you have prepared, who will it be for? “
Development
Man’s desire, and indeed his great problem in this last hour, is “to have in abundance”.
He reasoned with himself. What will I do?
His own resources and understanding, he doesn’t consult the Lord about his steps, seeking guidance from God is a strange thing for the world, the world is far from God.
I will do this: I will tear it down and build it up
Human self-sufficiency, man feels he is his own master, he is proud, he rules his own life, he follows his own plan. Man’s plan without God is null and void.
And I will say to my soul
Man listens to the voice of God, he does not come to the light so that his works will not be reproved, because they are not done in God. Man can only listen to what his reason and his own understanding say.
Many years…
Man thinks he has a long life, man lives, on average, 60 to 70 years. What is that in the face of eternity? Man is a temporal being, his days are numbered.
Rest, eat, drink and relax
These are man’s basic needs. However, man, in his own project, never manages to satisfy the needs of his soul.
Crazy, tonight they’ll ask you for your soul
For despising God’s plan, for thinking that he can satisfy his soul’s needs. “Tonight”: today, now, because Jesus could return at any moment in this period of spiritual darkness. “They will ask” (the operation of the Trinity).
Conclusion of Luke 12:20
Only in God can man achieve the satisfaction of all his spiritual needs. The Work of the Holy Spirit reveals this to us.
Man’s greatest need is eternal life.
