God will supply all our needs

Preaching Outline on Philippians 4:19 – “My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus”.

Introduction to Philippians 4:19

Paul’s letter to the Philippians reflects the deep love he felt for that church, because it was a church generated by a work done by Paul, together with Silas, through a revelation given to him by the Holy Spirit to go to the region of Macedonia, passing through Philippi (Acts 16:9-10). There the jailer was saved, along with his entire family, as well as Lydia, the seller of purple. The marks of the imprisonments and floggings in Philippi left Paul with a feeling of deep love for a church that he had created with pain and affliction.

THE CHURCH IN PHILIPPI SHARES IN PAUL’S MINISTRY

Now in Chapter 4, Paul expresses his gratitude to that church for their willingness to share in his afflictions. And he now sees the prosperity that the Lord gave to the church in Philippi, with the growth in the number of the brethren, and workers raised up in that church, whose names were written in the book of life (vs.3).

A church that, according to verse 9, reflected Paul’s entire ministry in its midst, and so the God of peace was with this church:

a) He learned the Lord’s teaching from him;

b) He received from him what came from the Lord;

c) He heard the Lord’s instructions from him;

d) He saw in Paul the testimony of the Lord

Paul prayed to God for the church in Philippi, because it shared so well with his ministry. His request was that the Lord would supply all the needs of that church, but in glory, according to His riches.

THE RICHES OF GOD

GOD PROVIDED FOR ISRAEL IN THE OLD COVENANT

God met the needs of the people of Israel as they left Egypt, walked through the desert and took possession of the Promised Land, by giving them:

– the liberation from Egyptian captivity;

– a worship of God in the tabernacle in the desert;

– the wonders worked on the journey;

– victory over the enemies of God’s people;

– water from the rock and manna every day;

– the cloud to walk by day and the pillar of fire to light up the night.

THE LORD JESUS SUPPLIES THE CHURCH IN THE NEW COVENANT

In fact, Jesus’ faithful church has been supplied by him in all its needs in glory, according to the riches that God has granted it. The riches are:

a) Salvation by the grace of the Lord Jesus;

b) The Baptism with the Holy Spirit, the sending of the Comforter;

c) The abundant manifestations of the Holy Spirit through spiritual gifts;

d) The resources of God’s grace placed at the disposal of his servants, giving them victories on their journey;

We need to value the riches of God’s Work that he has entrusted to us

IN GLORY

Every need of the church that is met in glory brings it closer and closer to the presence of the Lord and prepares it to take possession of the eternal glory that the Lord has in store for his servants in the “Father’s House”. The needs of the church are met by the Father, through Christ Jesus, that is, in the name of the Son. Through the exercise of the believer’s priesthood, the church has had the experience of having all its needs met.

Our needs have been met, yes, in glory, because they have been shared in communion, that is, in the body.
