I know how to be in need and have plenty – Preaching

Preaching Outline on Philippians 4: 11-14 – I do not say this of necessity, for I have learned to be content with what I have. I know how to be poor, and I know how to abound; in every way and in all things I am instructed, both to abound and to hunger, both to abound and to be in need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Yet you did well to share in my affliction.

Theme: Victory in the Lord

Introduction to Philippians 4:11-14

Before receiving the Lord’s call, Paul had everything. He was cultured, had social standing, influence, relationships, power, in short, everything that would fulfill anyone’s life materially speaking. But when he accepted to follow the Lord, Paul went through many afflictions. He was persecuted, imprisoned, tried, shipwrecked and slandered. All this in the name of the Lord.

PAUL’S LEARNING

Despite his afflictions, Paul declares in his letter to the Philippians what he had learned from the Lord. He who had everything, an abundance of resources and possessions, and then began to suffer needs, had learned from the Lord to be happy with what he had, because he had achieved the most important thing – salvation.

Paul was now instructed, not by men, but by the Holy Spirit himself. He had learned to face all situations, even the most difficult ones, because he knew that: I can do all things through him who strengthens me (vs 13). His strength was the Lord.

Conclusion of Philippians 4:11-14

Like Paul, we may experience afflictions, but we also know that our strength comes from the Lord. We can do all things through him who strengthens us.

The most important thing is that we have found salvation. Through Paul, the Lord tells us: ” Yet you did well to take part in my affliction We have made the good choice, to take part in the Lord’s afflictions, to pay a price, for we have already been assured of salvation.
