The Wonderful Bread – John 6:35

The Wonder Bread

Preaching Outline on John 6:35 – “Jesus said, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.

Central idea:
This bread never gets moldy, never loses its shelf life and satiates every hungry soul!

1. Divine Certification: “I AM”

A. An Affirmation of Divinity – Jesus was not speaking metaphorically; he was declaring himself to be God in the flesh.

B. A Direct Connection – “God said to Moses, ‘I AM THAT I AM. And he said, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, “I AM has sent me to you.”‘” (Exodus 3:14)

👉 Jesus is not just a teacher or a prophet. He is God himself made man!

2. Direct Correlation: “THE BREAD”

A. Greater than Moses – “Moses did not give them the bread from heaven, but my Father gives them the true bread from heaven.” (John 6:32)

  1. Moses was the mediator, Jesus is the source.
  2. Moses brought them out of Egypt, Jesus brings us out of sin.
  3. Moses died, Jesus lives forever.

B. Greater than Manna – “For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” (John 6:33)

👉 The manna sustained Israel for a time, but Jesus sustains humanity for eternity!

3. Distinctive Clarification: “LIFE”

A. A Personal Invitation – “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.” (John 6:47)
B. A Clear Explanation – “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” (John 6:51)

👉 It’s not about religion, it’s about relationships. Whoever feeds on Him lives forever!

4. Different confirmation: “WHO WANTS”

A. You’ll Never Be Hungry – “For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.” (John 6:55)

B. You‘ll Never Be Thirsty – “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.” (John 6:56)

Three people’s reactions:

  1. They couldn’t listen any longer – “This speech is hard; who can hear it?” (v. 60)
  2. They couldn’t go on – “They no longer walked with him.” (v. 66)
  3. They couldn’t help themselves – “We have believed and known that you are the Christ, the Son of God.” (v. 69)

👉 Many reject Jesus because they don’t understand, but those who really know him can’t stay away!

Conclusion of John 6:35

Taste and see that the Lord is good!

Jesus is not just any bread. He is:
The Bread that never spoils – His grace never ends.
The Bread that truly satisfies – Nothing in the world fills like him.
The Bread that gives eternal life – Whoever believes in him will never die.

What are you going to do?

  • Ignore it and stay hungry?
  • Or to come to Him and be filled forever?
