Introduction to II Chronicles 21:20 This text refers to Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah. Jehoshaphat was a good king. He sought the Lord and trusted in him. The Lord gave him victory in the wars in a wonderful way. In a battle against Ammon and Moab, the Lord said to him: "In this battle you will not have to fight; stand still and see the salvation of the Lord toward you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or dismayed; go out to meet them tomorrow, for the Lord will be with you." (2 Chronicles 20:17-25), The text says that when the people began to sing and give praise, the Lord set ambushes against the children of Ammon and Moab and these enemies killed each other. When Judah arrived for the battle they found a multitude of dead and the people set about plundering the spoils, where they found so much wealth that it took them three days to take everything they found. Development We have learned, however, that man's relationship with God is a particular experience for each individual. Although his father was a servant who deserved to have men write about him, like Jehu, son of Hanani, who put his deeds in the book of the kings of Israel, his son Jehoram chose to follow the path of the kings of Israel and hated the Lord in everything he did. Jehoram annoyed the Lord so much that he commanded Elijah, who was a prophet in Israel, to send a letter rebuking the king and prophesying harshly against him. This king died of a terrible disease, "in his bowels, which came out because of the sickness by which he died" (verse 19). The man rotted from the inside, and so bad was his condition that the people didn't burn perfumes on him, but quickly buried him outside the tombs of the kings. What's more, the Word says that he left without missing you. Those who forsake the Lord This is the sad end of those who abandon the Lord.Man is rotting from the inside. The disease that is killing man is in his soul. As the Word says, man has itches and is driven to commit the greatest atrocities. Ruth said to her mother-in-law: "Where you are buried, there I want to be buried too.Jehoram's remains were not buried with the other kings of Judah. When King Hezekiah died, he was buried in the highest of the tombs of the sons of David... and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death." (2 Chronicles 32:33). The Spanish translation goes like this: "He died and nobody wanted him anymore".
