The day God spoke - Preaching Preaching Outline on I Samuel 3:2-10 - "And it came to pass on that day, as Eli lay in his place (and his eyes began to grow dim, for he could not see)...Then the LORD came and stood there, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. And Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant hears." Introduction The text begins by saying: "...on that day...".Samuel had been in the house of the Lord for many days, he already knew everything about how the shifts worked, he knew what was in the house of the Lord, he knew the priest. It could have been a day like any other, but that day was special because it was the day that the Lord spoke to Samuel. Development This day is also special, because today is the day that God wants to speak to you. Sometimes, after going to church, people know everything about the church: the timetable, the liturgy, they even know the words to the songs, but there's one thing that makes a person's day different and special: when God speaks to them. Despite having been in the temple for a long time and knowing many things, Samuel didn't understand the first two times, just like many people who have been visiting the church for a long time and don't understand that God is speaking to their lives. But there was a moment when Samuel understood. Today the Lord wants you to understand this too. God called Samuel by name When God speaks to man, it's so personal, the service identifies him, the message, the praise, the gifts all identify him. "It's all for me! God is speaking to me". There was no way Samuel could say it wasn't about him, impossible. It was his name that was being called. Our services are services where God calls man by name, because there are gifts, the preaching is prophetic, the praises, so man lives the same experience as Samuel. "It's my name". The first 2 timesGod speaks to the man, but he doesn't understand. He leaves consoled, comforted, but he hasn't understood the service, he hasn't understood that God is speaking to him. Sometimes he goes to Eli (he thinks he's the man, the church, the preacher), but then there are two guidelines: 1 - It's the Lord, Samuel: it's not man talking to you, it's not a community, a denomination, it's the Lord! 2 - When God speaks again, say: "Here I am. Speak because your servant hears: Be a servant, say to Him today, "Lord, I understand your plan of Salvation, here I am, speak because your servant hears". 3rd timeService where man defines himself. You see, Samuel didn't just say, "Here I am, here I am," but he said, "Speak, Lord (he recognized the Lord as his God), for your servant hears (he put himself in the position of a servant. The cult where man defines himself as a servant)." Conclusion of I Samuel 3:2-10 That day was different for Samuel. God spoke to him. It wasn't different just because of that, but because he also spoke to God and said that he was his servant. Samuel's life would now be different. Now a relationship was built, which would be a life of eternal happiness. God wants to do this with you today too, this day is different. Today is not just another service, but God is speaking to you.
