The position of the Servant - Preaching Preaching Outline on Esther 6:12 - "After this Mordecai returned to the king's gate, but Haman ran back to his house, sad and with his head covered." Introduction to Esther 6:12 King Ahasuerus had ordered that Mordecai be honored and that this be proclaimed throughout the city. After Haman obeyed the king's order, and after Mordecai was honored, we can see two reactions that led to two positions. Development Mordecai's position shows us the position of God's servant. Mordecai has been honored, if he were in the flesh he could say: "I'm not going to stand at the king's door anymore, he has honored me, my place is different now, I need to leave this place." But he goes back to the king's door. Why? Because this is the position of the servant. The servant knows his place. It is the place of a servant. After receiving a blessing, or after being used, or after having an experience, he doesn't demand anything, he just wants to serve, he just wants to be at the king's door, in the same position, he doesn't change his character. Haman had a different reaction, he didn't return to the king, to his former position, he didn't rejoice at having done the king's will, because he didn't want to do the king's will, he wanted honors. There is another position that is not that of a servant. It's the one who doesn't want to do the king's bidding, who won't accept a test, won't accept humbling himself, won't accept asking someone for forgiveness. He even does something, even accomplishes something, but not with a joyful heart, not with sincerity and submission to God, because he doesn't want to be in the position of a servant, he obeys his heart (he went to his house), and the Bible says that the heart of man is deceitful, and doesn't allow the Holy Spirit to work in his mind (head covered), that is, he doesn't listen to the Word, the voice of the Lord, but rather lives with his opinions. Mordecai went to the king's door because he wanted fellowship. Haman went home (to the field of his interests) with his head covered (mind and heart closed to the operation of the Holy Spirit) because he didn't want fellowship. Conclusion of Esther 6:12 What is our position? Man is one thing before and another thing after honor. Where have we gone after honor? What have you done after God has honored you? What is your position after you have done God's will? Haman could have rejoiced in saying, "I have done the king's will!", but he didn't. Mordecai, if he had Haman's character, could have gone elsewhere. Mordecai, if he had Haman's character, could have gone elsewhere, but he returned to the king's gate. Mordecai wanted communion. May we, beloved, always do the Lord's will, whatever it may be, and always be in the position of servants.
